Rambling Thoughts

I just looked at my most recent blog post on this site and realized that I haven’t posted anything since April. It’s not as if my life has been so busy that I couldn’t write. I think I was totally wrapped up in unimportant things like Facebook and just didn’t do what I really like to do which is reading, writing, and art.

I have started creating again. In fact, I just finished making an Art-Journal for a friend of mine for her birthday. (BTW, she loved it!) That got the juices flowing again and I’m ready to finish some of the projects that have been hanging around since I retired last October and start some new ones.

I am reading at least a book a week. That’s a good thing. Working my way through some series that I had been wanting to read for years.

Now, we have to tackle the writing part of the big three. Thought I’d begin today with some random thoughts that I have been having. Fortunately (or unfortunately) my mind is always busy; so much so, that sometimes I can’t quiet it enough at night to get decent sleep. However, I digress.

So here are my thoughts in an entirely random order.

We watched “Superman versus Batman” last night. Not the worst movie I have ever seen. I don’t understand the “hype” over it though. I’m glad that we didn’t pay movie theater prices to see it.
This election cycle has me stymied. How did we get here where our only choices for President are a narcissistic business man and a narcissistic criminal? Really, the only principled vote for me is to not vote for either. As I have explained to others, I have been working in the pro-life movement for 40 years. In all that time, not a single pre-born baby has been protected by law. The most that our lawmakers have done is “regulate” abortion. They have never understood that one doesn’t regulate evil and expect to retain one’s soul. No matter who is in the White House or Congress, my work will continue as I try to save lives (and souls) one at a time. I’m reminded of what John Adams said. Only a moral people are able to govern themselves. We have ceased to be moral as a nation so we have ceased to be great. Greatness cannot be restored until we turn back to God.
I pray for our Pope, Francis. He has managed to sow confusion where there should be none. Of course, as a mother of 6, all of whom are in irregular unions, I would love that he would be right and that they aren’t living in a state of objective mortal sin. However, I believe that Jesus spoke the truth and so I pray continually for them and their spouses that they return to the faith that they were baptized in and get their messes cleaned up before it’s too late.
Another mess that has me stymied is gay faux marriage and transgenderism. Sodom and Gomorrah have nothing on this world that we live in now. I know that people have been homosexual since the beginning of time; however it wasn’t in my face all the time. Just like I want to keep my life in the bedroom private, I wish they would, too. Sodomy is the only sin that has its own parade. And, make no mistake, it is a sin. I know that the Church dances around it by calling the act but not the inclination a sin. Jesus, though, told us that even if we lust in our hearts, we commit sin. Doesn’t matter who one lusts for, man or women, does it?
I was going to say that I don’t understand the whole bathroom thing. This wouldn’t be totally accurate, though. This is just another thing to distract us from what is truly going on in our country–total moral decay and the total breakdown of decency and the family. This has been going on for about 50 years. Fifty-eight million dead babies later. . .is it any wonder that we are sliding to perdition on a highway greased with Pam? (I think I’m mixing a whole lot of metaphors, but you get the idea.)

I think that’s enough for today. I plan on writing much, much more in the future. I’ve given up Facebook, so I will have more time for the things that matter. I might lurk on FB once a week for a half-hour so I can keep up with what some of my grandchildren are doing. And, then again, I might not. They know how to reach me if it’s important.

Can I get a great AMEN!?

Do I Really Care About His Golf Handicap?

The short answer is “no.”

I’m going to rag and brag on our Archbishop today. I’ll try to be fair and balanced. Ahem!

The Archbishop is celebrating 10 years as our bishop. In our archdiocesan newspaper, there was much lauding his accomplishments and praising of his tenure here.

I wish that I could join wholeheartedly in the chorus that is singing his praises. However, I have my own little list of his accomplishments that aren’t so good in my mind. Over the years, there have been times when he has given awards to pro-abortion attorneys and health workers at annual “red” and “white” Masses. He stopped a 20 plus year tradition of the the archbishop giving an invocation and short speech at an ecumenical “Together for Life” Memorial Service and Silent Walk on January 22 each year. The move that he made seemed to make sense because the small church where Mass was held on that day couldn’t hold the 1000 Catholics that were there. I know, though, because I am an insider to the event, that it was prompted by political differences with the organization that has sponsored the event since 1974. I guess that is another problem that I have with him. Politics seems to trump principle with our Archbishop; a lot! He still allows Girl Scouts to use our schools for meetings. He gives unabashed support for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development that pours money into organizations that should be anathema to good Catholics everywhere.

So, now, what about some good things. In my opinion, he earns many points for continuing our Eucharistic Congress every June. He is doing his best to build schools and churches while others are having to close and merge. He is a very personable guy and I think I might like to have a beer with him. I just wish that that he was a little more motivated toward tradition and a lot less political.

I was here first so I have watched him and prayed for him over these 10 years. I can’t say that he is on my list of favorite prelates and there are times when I pray that God changes his mind or changes his location so we could have a less progressive shepherd. Lord only knows though where such a bishop would come from in this country!

Finally, the newspaper was running a contest. The winner would be drawn from all entries where all 10 questions were answered correctly. Curiosity “made” me look at them. There were the usual. How long has the Archbishop been a priest?? A bishop? Where was he born? Go to school? The one that made me laugh was “What is the Archbishop’s handicap in golf?”

I pray he says his Rosary and has a deep devotion to the Blessed Mother. I pray he believes in Judgment, and Heaven and Hell. I pray he would be a martyr rather than deny the Real Presence in the Eucharist. I pray he eventually gives us more opportunities for the Traditional Latin Mass. I pray that he will defend the defenseless even when everyone around him is giving in to unprincipled, political expediency. I pray he will abandon the “Church of Nice.”

But, his golf handicap? Frankly, Scarlett, I don’t give a damn.

There was one thing that surprised me, though. There are 190,000 abortions a year in England. There are more than a million a year in the US. Ponder that, please. I think that it will go better for Sodom and Gomorrah on Judgment Day than it will for those of us who live in the US and do not fight to end this abominable killing.

So why is it so hard to pray for some people?

We found out that our Mom, who is 86, has a mass on her one lung. She will be having a biopsy next Tuesday so that the doctors will know what they are dealing with but she has already decided that there will be no surgery, no radiation, no chemo–nothing. I understand it but I don’t at the same time. Because I am pro-life from conception to natural death and believe all the church teachings about the value of life and how we are to preserve it. (Read CCC 2278) I don’t get her attitude–her non will to live, as it were.

Mentioned this to my friend today whose older brother is 88 and in remission from lung cancer after going through a few chemo treatments. When questioned by the doctors if he had a living will, he told them that he had something better, he had the will to live.

I hope that mom will pray to the Holy Spirit, the Giver of Life, to be sure that she is doing what He would have her do instead of refusing treatment out of some selfish reason of pride or control that none of us really have over our life.

My daughter asked me a while back while her Grandma was so miserable in her life. And that is what brings me to the title of this blog. My mom is so miserable that she makes her children miserable. We are all such a disappointment to her (except my brother.) She actually told my sister that yesterday. My sister put our mom on her prayer “chains,” but first she had to ask for prayers for herself so that she can deal with our mom’s self-pity and whining all the time. So some people are hard to pray for without first fortifying ourselves with prayer.

Finally, I was going to take it personally that I am a disappointment to my mom and then, the Lord woke me up at 3:00 a.m. today and I was laughing at my mother and at myself. So I pulled out my rosary, said it for her, and went back to sleep with a smile on my face and joy and peace in my heart.

Gotta love the Holy Spirit!

#Gosnell

Hello, everyone.

I know we had planned to read about the Scriptural basis for the Nicene Creed; however, we will be putting that off until Monday afternoon.

Today, I have been tweeting about Kermit #Gosnell and the trial that the mainstreet media is not covering. #Gosnell is being tried for 8 counts of first degree murder in his clinic that has been described in the transcripts as a house of horrors.

Matthew Chapter 6

Lent is almost here! And, I re-read Matthew 6: 1-18 this evening to get ready for Almsgiving, Praying, and Fasting.

Just to recap for you, so you don’t have to go run for your Bibles (although that would be good if you did) verses 1-4 concern Almsgiving. Some highlights “Beware of practicing your piety before men in order to be seen by them; for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. . . . .But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. . . . and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

Concerning Prayer–Verses 5-15 “And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. . . . But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

Concerning Fasting – Verses 16-18 “And when you fast, do not look dismal like the hypocrites. . . . But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face that your fasting may not be seen by men but by your Father who is in secret and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

The key to a good Lent: “and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.”
